A few days before my fertility treatment, I booked myself for a massage. She used aromatherapy oils and I felt fantastic afterwards. She used Rosemary and Lavender.
In any case, since that experience I have been thinking about the oils more and more. I was getting something in a bookstore and a book called “massage to go” was calling my name, so I bought it. It also has a lot of acupressure points and a chakra mediation plus other stuff, so it was worth it. Plus a list of aromatherapy oils and what they are best for.
I then got an article in my inbox from Iva Keene of http://www.natural-fertility-prescription.com/ about aromatherapy oils for fertility. I was relieved to hear that aromatherapy oils do not interfere with the injections you get in fertility treatments (whew! I had just had two doses of Menopur that day!) http://www.natural-fertility-prescription.com/aromatherapy_for_fertility/ I then did a bit of Googling as well.
My conclusion:
- Estrogen stimulants:
Everyone liked Clay Sage for stress, depression, anxiety. It also imitates estrogen so it will help you conceive. One article suggested you rub it into your reproductive organs. Note: my massage book said that you shouldn’t use it during pregnancy. This is because you want to increase progesterone, not estrogen in the second half of your cycle or if you are pregnant. (I’m just gathering this because my homeopath gave me progesterone cream to take on the second half of my cycle, I could be wrong here..).
Geranium ? soothing, relaxing, antidepressant. It also balances hormones and stimulates the adrenal cortex. It helps the uterus and ovaries.
One article said this combines well with rose.
Fennel – helps the female reproductive system.
Other estrogen stimulants are aniseed, lemongrass and Melissa.
- Relaxation oils:
Everyone also liked Lavender for relaxation.
Rose oil was also suggested. Good to put in your bath.
- Rosemary: very interesting, according to this article (http://fertility.amuchbetterway.com/aromatherapy-sweetest-way-to-boost/) Rosemary was woven into bridal headdresses for fertility. She says you should rub it into your hip bones to sooth inflammation and open blockages. Interesting that my massage book says don’t use Rosemary when pregnant (or if you suffer from epilepsy).
I’d be interested in your comments. I am not a professional (doctor or massage therapist) so I’m open to input!
