New beginnings and rays of light

July 10, 2022 by heatherss 5 Comments

I thought I’d dust off this old blog and write a post. It’s been a while since I’ve written here. Life has been eventful but it hasn’t always been easy to write about, to put it into words. Recently there have been some positive changes in my life and I thought I’d write an update.

After renting a place for more than two years it was time for a change. Brett’s estate was finally dealt with (thanks to an awesome accountant that kept going with Sars) and I started looking at houses. I looked at a lot online. I wanted a place with a nice yard with trees. A room for Nicky. A place where I could work. Fibre internet. A decent size to put all my stuff. Really just a place to call my own.

We found our new home at a showhouse day. It was the first and the last house I looked at. It just checked a lot of boxes. Some really nice features of this house include security cameras and an area I can lock up at night in the passageway, two lights (the passageway and Nicky’s room) that continue to light up during load shedding, a walk in closet, a shower that detaches so I can wash Nicky’s hair easily and a pool. The pool is actually hard work but it is peaceful to sit in the sun next to water. I’ve also installed a water tank. Water is a big issue in the city of Gqeberha/ PE at the moment. One section of my roof’s rain water is going in the tank and the other section is going in the pool.

I think the sun is what I am appreciating most about this house. My previous place was at the back of someone else’s house and it faced south. It didn’t get a lot of sun and in winter with the cement floor it was really cold. Now my study is full of light and at dinner time the light is directly on me when I eat. Just a few steps outside I can sit in the sun during the day as well.

The solar therapy is rather helpful to me. I’m single again and being in this place is helping me put myself back together.

Work has been going well. I was particularly busy around March/ April where I worked seven hour days teaching which was very hectic but I made some money. With the European summer the schedule has died down a lot so I’ve got a lot of gaps right now but it’s cool what with Nicky being on holiday and sorting out the new house, it’s probably good timing. I’ve also picked up a new private student who I actually taught in Joburg at one stage (Taiwanese) along with the other Spanish private student, so it’s something I’m hoping to expand in the future with my new website.

Blogging on SA Mom blogs has also been very busy lately and I’m super excited for the awards coming up. I knew these awards were something that deserved more recognition and I’m really chuffed that I’ve entered into an exciting partnership with BabyYumYum.co.za who are connecting me with some cool sponsors for this event.

I have lonely moments but I’m choosing to focus on those rays of light.

Sitting in the sun in my new place.

Reading a book at Panarotti’s while my kid plays in the play area.

Baking with Nicky. Having a bath with him again.

Building exciting blogging things and websites.

Step by step, making this place a home.

Sitting in your own patch of sun sounds good. We appreciate our bay window which catches sun year round.
