Week 5: Latching On and Getting Out

July 22, 2012 by heatherss 10 Comments

This week has been a very good week:

1. I finally have the house to myself. Not that I don’t appreciate mom and mom in law helping out, but it is so good to have my own space again.

2. I finally got a good latch with the breastfeeding and we seem to be getting on the right track. Make no mistake we take a few steps back now and then (when he’s really hungry and crying his head off!) but on the whole there has been a big improvement.

3. I got a bit more out and about this week. Did some shopping at Baby City and went to some mother’s meetings. On Thursday it was my lactation consultant’s meeting which is basically a social breakfast. And on Sat I went to a La Leche League meeting which was more instructional. It is just good to get out and meet people.

And now for some pictures. On Saturday night after a horrible time where he really was screaming, after he had fed I sat next to the heater (part of the calming down plan being to warm him up) the light cast a beautiful light on him.

My miracle baby.

So wonderful to hear you’ve got a good latch and that breastfeeding is working! That is incredible – well done! I love the photos of your miracle baby – he is gorgeous and I’ll bet you are constantly getting stopped while you are out and about so that people can marvel over him.

Wow, Heather, one doesn’t realise what some people have to endure to become parents!! I didn’t realise you had this blog, otherwise I would’ve been reading it on a regular basis, and I really didn’t know that you and Brett were having infertility problems at all. Heather C did mention it briefly, but that was only when she told me of your pregnancy with Nicholas. I couldn’t be happier for the three of you – a special little family!! All of the best – and all I can advise, is let your intuition guide you – usually it’s right!! Advice from experienced moms also helps, but sometimes one feels a bit overwhelmed when you are hearing this from one person, and that from another. And let God be your guide too – there is great power in prayer. Lots of love to you all. Hope to maybe see you sometime soon, if you are coming to EL for Christmas, maybe. Please let us know – I’d really like to meet Nicholas.
