Being a mom of a small child is an exhausting task. Yet we tend to soldier on, tending to the needs of our kids at the cost of ourselves. We also tend to let ourselves go a little, particularly if, like me, you are a stay at home mom. Do you know that I actually follow a blog called “Fighting off Frumpy?” It’s a constant battle to look after ourselves. This is why a little pampering in the right setting is just what the doctor ordered. Thank you, Sorbet Fourways, for spoiling me and making me feel a bit more like a “yummy mummy” and not just a frumpy mom.
I don’t normally go to beauty salons much. It’s a bit beyond my budget. But lately I’m appreciating the value of spoiling myself. Which is why I jumped at this opportunity.
For me, it isn’t just the expense, it is arranging the childcare. Sorbet is facilitating an environment where you can bring your baby along and breastfeed in peace. Obviously this will work better with treatments such as manicures or pedicures where you have (at least one) hand free to hold and feed!
Since Nicky is past the baby stage, I had to make sure childcare was arranged. My maid did not pitch up (again…) so I had to rely on a friend. Thanks, Marelise, I appreciate you!
I had a tough time deciding between the three specials. In the end I settled on the facial and foot massage. I decided to do something different, although that massage also looked really good.
The facial was such a relaxing experience. The soft steam made me feel like I was soaking in a bath. Nqobile even worked on my blackheads! While the mask was on she gave me a superb neck rub. Oh my word. I became so relaxed I nearly fell asleep. It turns out my skin was quite dehydrated so she gave it a lot of moisture and also gave me some nice samples to continue the treatment.
After that I had the foot massage and she really worked those muscles. I think this kind of treatment is even more powerful because the feet are linked to different body organs (if you study reflexology).
I think the most important thing about the experience was how the tranquility penetrated my tired soul (after being up for three hours the previous night with Nicky) and gave me a much needed break.
If you live in Johannesburg, make a date before the end of June to enjoy these specials.
1) Power Pedi: The pedicure is R245 with a free paraffin dip worth R70.
2) Sorbet Facial: Grade R380 (I had) or Lite (R280) with foot massage worth R80.
3) 30 min back massage: R230 with two Sorbet products to the value of R75.
I did in the end get a product as well: the Salon Skin Facial Tissue Oil which my amazing therapist said would cover a lot of bases in terms of the hydration my skin needed. It has eight hour hydration, fights aging and has Vitamins A, C and E. I do actually take Vitamin C and E, but as we learnt at the #JoziMeetup, only 2% of what you take in internally will make its way to the skin, so you have to apply something actually on your skin to make a difference.
They really do have a lot of nice products and options to look at.
After all that pampering, it was back to fetch my little boy, who had been very good while at his babysitter. I was so proud of him, considering the lack of sleep!
Ah, my dearest Nicky, now Mom can be a better mom because she took some time out for herself.
