Granny’s Visit

July 6, 2013 by heatherss 6 Comments

June has been our month for visitors. We first had DH’s parents visiting for his party, and my MIL was a huge help in making that a success. I had a week break and then my mother arrived.

Granny enjoyed playing with Nicky. They had fun clapping hands and showing how to walk. My mom also helped him go down stairs backwards, which he had been struggling with. (Going up is not a problem).

Nicky really loves to crawl outside now, and get very dirty. I now do his bath time late afternoon or evening so that I can clean him up. I try and keep him inside in the morning before his morning nap, otherwise we would be bathing all day!

Nicky “eating” pizza

I made my first cheesecake using my MIL’s recipe, but it didn’t taste as good as hers. I struggled a bit with the gelatin. Nicky enjoyed “eating” both pizza and my new creation. You can see there was no problem here sitting in the high chair but that’s because the table was full of interesting people to look at (not just boring mom!)

My mom helped me relax a bit about the eating, although it seems we are making some progress. Breakfast still seems to be a problem, but she suggested making crunchies instead. He also likes to play with biscuits. I make muffins with oats and Pronutro in them so when I eat them in the late morning, I give him a bit too.

We started letting him eat from my plate and that is working. For the first time he is grabbing food off my plate which is huge progress. He is going for the stuff I let him snack on before e.g. spaghetti noodles, but it makes a difference that he is choosing it. I am still supplementing with the smoother stuff, but there is definitely a transition happening.

At the moment his default position seems to be crawling pushing something, anything. Preferably with wheels, but he will push books, CD covers, containers, anything. He still loves to play with the mops and brooms and yesterday enjoyed a lot of time pushing a broom around the garden.

Pushing my truck.

He loves his truck present from grandpa (DH’s dad). It seems to be just the right size and weight for him to push. It is a special present because it was my DH’s gift on his second birthday.

So fun to have so many visitors and how fun for your parents and in-laws to have that time to connect with Nicky! He is such a cutie and growing so fast. BTW – I think your cheesecake looks fabulous!
