Why I love Circle and Bloom

July 4, 2010 by heatherss 11 Comments

I’ve always believed in the power of the mind. But how to harness this power and use it for our cycles so as to get the most out of the effect our mind can have on our ability to conceive? The answer, I was glad to find, is in the “Circle and Bloom” program which takes you day by day through your fertility for optimum results.

Joanne Verkuilen, the inventor of the mind-body audio program, is herself no stranger to infertility. I listened to her speak on Sarah Holland’s fertility online conference. She has PCOS. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a hormone imbalance. It basically puts your ovaries into overdrive, producing many cysts (hence the “poly” in the name) instead of healthy eggs.

Her first pregnancy was easily achieved, but not her second one. She struggled to conceive, and even when she did, some of them were not viable and had to be terminated. Imagine her heart ache. She did eventually have her second child.

She developed the program to help a friend. It is a visualization program which helps you imagine your ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, hormones etc working in perfect harmony to bring about your baby.

She approached Doctor Bernie Seigel (author of “Love, Medicine and Miracles”) who had had some success with working with visualization and cancer patients. She asked him if the same concepts would work for infertility, and he said, of course!

Joanne has also compiled programs that will work with your IUI and IVF cycle. Here she spent time with doctors finding out exactly how the cycle would work and how to get us to visualize exactly the right thing on the right day. She says one of the important things she learned when making this product was that you should imagine absorbing just the right amount of the injections they give you, that the body needs. And of course, sending love to that connection between the sperm and egg.

Her recordings consist of three elements:

  1. Relaxation: we know how important this is. We need to reduce our stress levels. Here she uses deep breathing and works throughout your whole body to bring it to a place of progressive relaxation. Your mind becomes quiet and your body heavy.
  2. Visual component: here you imagine all your organs in perfect health. She goes into a lot of detail here (your ovaries are teaming with eggs, your fallopian tubes are soft , flexible and will allow passage easily, your uterus is in the right mode for that time of the month, your cervix is releasing just the right amount , consistency and ph level of mucus.
  3. Emotional component: Here she gives exercises that will help you deal with your own issues. She calls them “sign posts” in that they will help direct you to your problem areas. In the freebie download she describes taking all your anxiety and wrapping it up in a balloon and letting it go. I found this very helpful. Of course EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is also a very effective tool for dealing with negative emotions. For more information on EFT go here: http://healwithheather.com/eft.htm  and for the points here: http://healwithheather.com/eftpts.pdf)

Anyway, this program has personal significance for me as I used it on the days leading up to my fertility treatment. It helped with the anxiety but also helped with producing excellent follicules and uterine lining. My doctor was very impressed.  It just shows you the power of the mind!

Sounds great! There is no questions about the link between Mind and Body, and there is beginning to be empirical evidence that shows how tapping into this this link can benefit couples who are trying to get pregant. I have developed a Yoga for Fertility program that involves specifically designed Yoga postures, breathing, visualizations and deep relaxation, and am having great success with this. I offer workshops and private sessions in Montreal, Canada. For more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at tashalackman@videotron.ca.
