I think it’s important to record some of the end of year moments in this blog. This year has largely been a good year for us, apart from my father’s death. It has been Nicky’s last year at school with me and it’s bittersweet for us – my little boy is growing up and will be going to big school next year (Grade R) and I won’t have him around anymore. A big change for both of us!
But onto our end of year activities…
Nicky had his end of year concert recently and he was super cute. He had to dress up in traditional African clothes and say a few words too: “In Africa we have the biggest desert called the Sahara, the longest river called the Nile and the ancient pyramids in Egypt.”
They also sang some really lovely African songs like Jabulani and The Circle of Life.
After the end of term we had our holiday program and the highlight for me was making cork boats. I used four layers of cork tiles and Nicky helped me with the design of the sail. The kids had so much fun splashing them around in water they pretty much were dismantled but Nicky managed to keep his in one piece.
We then went off for a week in PE with my mom. My mom is in the process of moving from her big house to a retirement cottage so we checked that out and tried to take some stuff off her hands. One thing I have inherited from my father is his camera and I have been trying to take some pictures with it. I had fun on the beach taking pictures of the kids building sandcastles.
We then went back up to Jozi (where I had left my DH and Coff-dog) to spend Christmas together. We had a lovely meal together and Nicky at last got the toys he had been waiting for – the paw patrol air patroller and his lego race cars. Just for fun we also threw in some water pistols and he has been having fun squirting us in this hot weather.
I hope everyone is having a super festive season and all the best to everyone for 2018! Hope it’s a good one.
