(Spoiler alert: do not read if you are still going to watch Breaking Dawn and don’t want to know what happens)
It was probably not a good idea to watch a film about vampire babies, being 9 weeks pregnant and all.
For starters I was feeling a bit of nausea and had to have a little crème soda going into the cinema. I can honestly say I haven’t had much in the way of pregnancy symptoms (apart from my expanding waistline and boobs). But in the mornings sometimes I do feel bit sick. It isn’t anything I can’t manage, and I can’t really complain.
We landed up seeing this film on a Sunday morning, as when we looked online at the seating plan on Saturday night we realized the five o’clock show had no two seats together and we would have to sit separately. The eight o’clock show was sold out. And I really wasn’t keen to go out for the ten o’clock one.
The film is incredibly romantic. So I’m addicted to the romance of watching Bella and Edward create their dream wedding and honeymoon. There is something brooding and attractive about Edward, and it makes it even more romantic that he gets so excited during sex that he breaks furniture. And sadly, inadvertently lands up bruising Bella. They swear not to do it again – but this is their honeymoon, for Pete’s sake – so obviously they can’t help it.
Vampires obviously grow at different rates. No two week wait here. The very next day Bella feels sick and something moving inside her.
Pregnancy is something we all strive for as infertiles – but in this case, for Bella, it’s life threatening.
The vampire baby is growing at an alarming rate and she becomes weaker and weaker.
Jacob also enters the scene to check if she is ok – and of course he wants that little one destroyed. Purely because he is still so in love with Bella.
Bella is fiercely protective over her unborn child, however, and bravely continues her pregnancy, drinking blood to help things along. (Seriously, eeeu!!!) But I’m sure we can all relate when she says “I’ll do anything” (to help both herself and the baby).
The fact is that the vampire baby is not compatible with her human body. It’s not so far a stretch when I think of the antiphosholipid antibodies inside my body created to protect my immune system but dangerous to my baby. I mean, I’m taking injections every Sat still and my rear end is covered in bruises. I’m gulping pills every day. But I’ll do it. I want that baby to live.
Jacob and Edward are both there for a fairly gruesome birth scene. Now this is probably why I shouldn’t be watching this movie. Hope I don’t have nightmares!! The only way Bella can survive is for Edward to inject his venom into her heart. She lands up deathly pale and motionless. You almost think that she is dead until the critical last second of the movie. And then we know that Bella has undergone the change she sought all along and emerges stronger as a vampire.
In the meantime the little babe is just perfect, but still in danger. As Jacob advances menacingly he is completely bowled over. And something magical happens between them. There is something called “imprinting” that happens, and from that moment on they are connected, and he, and his wolf tribe cannot hurt this being.
The life changing event of giving birth, of being changed through this, and emerging stronger, really hit me as I saw Bella’s physical body change. And the way Jacob changed towards thebaby just reminded me that no matter what our expectations of a child are, they can be swept away just in the magical connection built in relationship with that very special being.
Despite all my fears about this process, the birth, and all the things that can go wrong, I have to stand in awe of the miracle that God has created.
And I’m excited to see what happens next.

We went to see the movie on Friday afternoon. I was queasy about the birthing scene as well holding my little tummy. I must confess I even got quite emotional. I read the books some time ago, so it was great to see how it will be done. I can

I went to see it last night, can’t wait for part 2.
And then there were moments where I wished our pregancy’s was so short. Just think we could be sitting with our babies in our arms right now 🙂

I really should see this movie, given how many of the people in the infertility community have blogged about it. I think I would rather go through IVF, pregnancy bedrest and cerclage plus surgery than drink blood. But, in the end, I would do anything, just like we all would.
Enjoy the miracle. PRegnancy is such an exciting time, full of the miracle inside. I was super sick with hyperemesis and still enjoyed the excitement.
