Nicky has wanted a Hot Wheels party for a long time so we made that desire a reality at his sixth birthday party. He loves those cars so much and enjoys rolling them all over the house and building tracks everywhere too. We also decided to have the party at the Junior Traffic Centre near us since we missed the class activity at that venue and kids that age love whizzing around on their bikes.
He had a lovely birthday circle at school with his class and teacher. The class said such nice things about him and make a stunning book for him. They prayed for him and he built a “cake” and blew out candles. They then enjoyed bubblegum ice lollies that Nicky had chosen.
The Hot Wheels theme was a fun one and I had been working on a Pinterest board all about it.
In the lead up to his birthday Nicky really wanted a Hot Wheels boat which I could not find in SA so I found it online on Amazon and in the time it took to get here I milked the arrival of this toy by creating a chore chart for him. I finally got him to put his clothes on by himself in the morning just for a Hot Wheels boat! Even though it has been so cold he has been enjoying me pulling him around the pool in it!
The cake I got from Kim of Kim’s Creations. It had a super “loop de loop” on top and flaming circle for the cars to go through.
I really liked these Hot Wheels cupcakes too that I saw on Pinterest so I got her to make the toppings figuring I could make the cupcakes myself. That was until Friday night when my stove packed up. After that I had to get them from Woolworths and it would have cost the same to order from her in the first place. Oh well, they were fun.
I found some super ideas from this post (and printables) but I found some triangular chips for the road cones instead of cheese.
I know the kids from my school (and Nicky of course) love those Oreo cookies so I made them be the spare tires instead of doughnuts.
I made robots from fruit: kiwi for green, banana for yellow and strawberry for red. On second throughts a grape probably would have worked better for green as the kiwi fruit fell apart a bit. Cheese might also have been a good alternative for the yellow.
There are a lot of car fruits on Pinterest but at the last minute I ditched the apple idea and used oranges instead for the body of the car because I knew it would last longer. The wheels I made from grapes. These turned out to be quite popular.
The other thing the kids liked was my biscuit cars which I made from finger biscuits, Smarties on top and Whispers split in half for wheels. I used blue icing to stick it all together and the blue food colouring stayed on my fingers for the next day too. But that was fun to make.
I had already done vehicle biscuits the weekend before as well.
The decor for the party largely came from a website called Party Net. Just a heads up that you need to order two weeks in advance from them. But all my cups, plates, little toys for the party packs etc came from them.
With the food, cake and decor sorted, what venue did we decide to use?
The Junior Traffic Centre in Martha Rd, Fontainebleau is a popular venue. It’s a really fun place for the kids to ride their bikes around, complete with little robots, a petrol station and a building that has little tables and chairs plus a kitchen too. It doesn’t cost anything to book but you do go there and book. Which I did, about a month ago. I also visited the venue that morning to pop in and confirm.
The kids had a lot of fun on their bikes.
The kids rode around and we sat outside and chatted while they had fun. It was a nice mix of Nicky’s friends from his old school and his new school.
Then we went inside and sang happy birthday and Nicky blew out his candles. The cake worked out really well and there was enough for everyone.
The party pack had a few toys (a blower and tattoo from Party Net, and stickers from a party shop in Northgate) plus sweets and chocolates.
Nicky also was lucky enough to have his grandparents visiting and it was great to have them around. My father in law did a lot of fixing of things around the house on Friday and we all went out for breakfast on Sunday for Father’s Day.

Looks like so much fun!!! That overlap would have stressed me out so much I might have had a hard time enjoying afterwards. I’ve learnt to go with the flow especially when it comes to kids parties. One reason I always end up doing my parties st home!!
How long did it take for the Amazon orde to arrive and hope you didn’t have to pay for customs
