We had a special celebration for Nicky on his 7th birthday. Nicky has been playing a lot of Star Wars Lego Xbox games lately and watching some of the movies too. So we decided to have a Star Wars Lego party.
In the lead up to his birthday Nicky was really not well. He was a snot nosed feverish boy and even nauseous at one point. But we went to the doctor and dosed him up to be well enough for his party in time.
Nicky has been doing really well at school this year and I am super proud of him. Although I was keeping him home this week we popped in to celebrate his birthday with his class. His teacher is full of fun and pulled out a puppet to be part of the festivities as well.
Then we had doughnuts with his classmates. Yes, doughnuts. Which we walked the whole of Cresta to find and eventually found them at Pick n Pay.
After a bit of research I found some ideas for a Star Wars party. I also visited some Chinese shops and found some cheap “light sabers” for the kids to play with. I found some decor and star wars tatoos at Partynet.
The cake was definitely a problem. I wasn’t up to spending what I did last year on Nicky’s hot wheels cake and I don’t consider myself much of a baker either. So I phoned my cake lady, told her a revised budget and she made something simple that we could put Star Wars toys on. We even got some sparklers from the Chinese shop too.
And what are friends for if you can’t get them to take pics and light sparklers for you? I am super blessed. 🙂
I found some labels online and landed up making:
Light sabers = dipped pretzel sticks
Princess Lays = Lays Chips
Obiwan Kenobi’s kebabs = skewer sticks of fruit and chicken (thanks Woolworths)
I added a bit of sweets into the mix but not all that much. This time everyone seemed to eat all the food which was great; previously I’ve had a lot of leftovers.
For the party pack I kept it to 3 sweets only and a few toys (bubbles are always a hit) and I printed a Star Wars Lego colouring book.
While researching all this Star Wars stuff I came across some Yoda quotes and I put them in too. They totally reflect my frame of mind and the spiritual growth I am trying to work through.
Sure, it wasn’t easy not having Brett there at the party and his parents didn’t make the trip this time. But on the positive side I will see them soon when I go to PE in July and at least my cousins also came. If I really want to be a Jedi Knight I have to train myself to let go of everything I am attached to and come to terms with the fact that death is a natural part of life.
“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.”
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.”
“You will know (the good from the bad) when you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.”
“If you end your training now — if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did — you will become an agent of evil.”
“In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way.”
“Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.”
“Do or do not. There is no try.”
“Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future..”
“The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is.”
“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”

You did a wonderful job creating a wonderful celebration for Nicky! And I think you’re a whole lot closer to Yoda than almost anyone with all you’ve been through and your perseverance that never departs.
