On the move at ten months

Heather and Nicholas 10 months

Nicholas 10 monthsWell, Nicky continues to grow and grow (and get heavier and heavier to carry).

One of the most noticeable differences his past month is that he has been sleeping less. It has been frustrating for me, because nap time is when I work. Previously he would sleep for 2-3 hours, and lately that has become one and a half hours. Some of this is only 30 min at a time. Then suddenly this week he went back to good two hour sleeps again. So go figure. I just know he is in such a better mood when he has had a decent sleep. So I’ll keep on working on creating comfortable environments for sleep. I’ve messed up sometimes by having a toy in the way when he rolls over so now I know to surround him with soft pillows and keep him comfy.

Boy and dog

Nicholas continues to work on his mobility. One time he crawled to another room in pursuit of the dog and then cried when he realized it was a bit of a long trip to come all the way back. So short distances are fine and he is shifting around happily investigating things in the lounge. He is also crawling all over the bed so we have to have him in his playpen when when we are not in the room.

Lifting my play mat

Lifting my play mat

Nicky lifted this tray from the side back onto his table.

Nicky lifted this tray from the side back onto his table.

He is also getting to be such a strong boy and likes to lift things. Remember the days when he lay on his play mat? No more: he is lifting it. Remember when he sat in his box chair and rolled the water bottle back and forth? No more: he is lifting the tray up.

Sitting up in the bath

Sitting up in the bath

In the bath we have evolved from lying on his back to the front, and now he prefers to sit. After sitting for a bit he lays on his stomach for a bit, and at some point will pull the plug out. I guess he decides now when bath time is over!

We have also been enjoying baby bible class for the past few months which is really cute and lots of fun with cool songs. There is one cool song about “open, shut them”, which I try and use when he wants to open and shut things.

Playing with a balloon at the Spur

We went to the Spur again and Nicky had fun with a balloon the first time. The next time it was a bit much (he got a bit worked up and kept poking himself as well). It is amazing how he has grown and now sitting in his own little chair.

Laughing and showing my teeth

He now has four teeth on top and two below. We continue to be more dependent on breast milk than solids and he enjoys playing with food rather than eating it.

I can hardly believe we are two months away from his first birthday. Yesterday we went out and got him a plastic shell and balls as a present. Can’t wait to see him have fun in that.

I can’t believe how big he has gotten and that you will have a first birthday in two months! Where does the time go?

He is just adorable!! Olivia is all over the place now too. I work from home 2 days a week and it is tough sometimes. She takes pretty good naps….usually 2hrs in the morning and 2hrs in the afternoon. She has the 2 bottom teeth and the 2 top ones and just starting to come in…..so I am sure this will cause some issues with our schedule 🙂 Olivia is fast….if I turn for just a minute, she is into something so I have areas sectioned off in the living room that are safe for her! It won’t be long and they will both be crawling!

Hey Sybil I am also working from home when he naps but those naps are becoming shorter. He is crawling around, but not on all fours.
I can relate to sectioning off areas – we have a play pen in the study but sometimes we let him out and he get so excited to move chairs back and forth etc… but mostly it is just safer to keep him in the playpen!
