ENT and Gynae visits

June 7, 2012 by heatherss 3 Comments

Hello bleeps!

Try keeping up with me and my latest medical escapades!

Yesterday, I went to the beauty shops to get all sorted out for my op. It was so good to see my old therapist there and catch up (yip I drove the extra miles because they had moved, but trust me, I’d rather do that than trust my lower regions to someone I didn’t know!)

We then went off to the ENT (Ear, nose and throat specialist) in the afternoon. We waited more than an hour. And I saw an ex-parent of the school there too.

Anyway I am really glad we got to see him. He really checked out my ear very thoroughly. It turns out there was a lump of wax right at the back which, when I kept adding the drops, kept getting more and more squishy and painful. So he just got out all his fancy gadgets and vacuumed it out. Problem solved! Whew! He also did a whole lot of tests, and my hearing is fine, and it isn’t Ramsy Hunt syndrome. So glad about that. It is just straight Bell’s palsy: cause unknown, but could have been aggravated by the pregnancy.

He prescribed some more meds and better eye drops. I promise you the worst thing about this condition is getting dry eye. I now have an eye patch and I put in the drops (day) and gel (night) but it doesn’t really totally solve the problem. The best is actually just to shut your eyes (I’m getting better at that, but not blinking).

Today I went to the physio in the morning again, and apart from the normal massage, he also put a TENS machine on me with electrical impulses. All trying to wake the muscles up.

Back home to get some rest before seeing Dr K. Was determined to get that BP down!

Anyway we got there and went through what will happen next week. I can eat until 8am and then I have to be there at 12. But it could change, they will let me know. The op will take place in the afternoon. Dr K says he is also on call this weekend should baby decide to come sooner! Good to know, but unlikely. He is happy with the meds from the ENT because the cortisone will help develop baby’s lungs.

The best news was looking at the scan results: baby has grown! Whoop, whoop! He is now 2.9kg which is great and he went up on all those curve graph things.

Was about to leap out of there when we had to do the dreaded BP readings. The first one was very high ? 150s. But I asked him please take another and we got it down to the 130s. With so little time to go and my urine clear of protein, I guess he wasn’t that bothered about it, so I got to get out of there. (Believe me; my bag was still packed in the car ready to go as usual!)

Well that’s all from me for now. Going to go and rest! Baby shower no 2 tomorrow!

Ha! I didn’t know you posted more! Sorry! Should have read ahead. Glad to hear it isn’t Ramsay Hunt. I know a couple of people who have had Bell’s Palsy and are all pretty and symmetric again. That Ramsay Hunt business is scary!
