Grow, baby grow!

May 31, 2012 by heatherss 9 Comments

Hello bleeps!

Well, not much is really new. I have been resting at home trying to create an optimal place for baby to do his thing? Blood pressure readings have come down, but I’m sure they go up every now and then when I worry?

On Monday we went to my GP down the road because an insect had flown in my ear. Can you believe that? It actually happened on Friday but I just put drops in on Sat and then my mom tried to syringe it out on Sun with water. I didn’t feel like making the trip to the doc before because they were doing shopping on Sat and we had Brett’s parents dropping in on Sun on the way back from their overseas trip in Eastern Europe. My mom in law got me a lovely glass vase and a little toy to hang on the camp cot for my little one to play with. Very sweet of her.

In any case, putting water in my ears turned out to be a big mistake, and the pain escalated. Although it was feeling a lot better on Monday, we still went and got it checked out. It turned out that my ear canal was too swollen to see much so he just gave me some ear drops. We then went to a party shop to get some stuff for the baby shower with my friends on Sat, which I am really looking forward to.

I have been reading a lot. I read some of those pregnancy / childcare books. I even read the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding which turned out to be very interesting. Did you know your baby can actually lose weight at first before gaining again and it is perfectly normal? Reassuring to read about that.

Yesterday we went for another check up with Dr K. We waited more than an hour and when we finally got in he was really just enjoying chatting to my mom about doctor stuff (her being a doctor and all) I was beginning to wonder when they would talk about me! It turns out he really is getting disillusioned with private practice and wants to do the academic thing and write a thesis about ? not sure if I have this right? but it is something to do with the elasticity of a woman’s  skin / tissues and how this will tell how well she is up for natural labour. Very interesting stuff.

Anyway they finally got to looking at me.  Although all the things like heartbeat, blood flow etc. are doing fine, the big concern is: baby didn’t grow in the past week. However, he didn’t seem to think this was the end of the world or necessary to move my C-section date earlier. We are still on for the 13th. This is a big relief for me, as I want to keep baby in as long as possible, and make it to my second baby shower on the 8th (at work).

However, it is very concerning to me that my little one didn’t grow, and I would really appreciate positive thoughts and prayers to him to do his thing while I am resting and trying to just create the best environment for growth that I can. It is a bit frustrating when I feel like I am already doing all I can and mom is doing more than expected (feeding me a variety of healthy vegetables too). Well, I guess worrying about it doesn’t help, and I just need to let it go and trust that all will be fine.

Oh, and sending best wishes to my dearest friend Z who is having her baby today!

U/s growth estimates can be off by a whole pound. It sounds like you are taking fabulous care of yourself… when is your next check-up? Deep breaths, kick counts, and lots of love. xo

Sorry to hear that you have problems with your BP. I hope things stays stable until the Caesar date.

I do not know much about weight gain of baby during pregnancy, but I would be a little worried too. But if he thinks all is fine then it probably is.

Oh babes! An insect in your ear? OMG! I hope it gets better. My Dr. told me that U/S can be off 10%, so last time they checked me I was at 34weeks and the baby weight was 2, 236g so it can be lower or higher and since then he was alright with it and I didn’t have another U/S since. I don’t think the baby needs to grow anymore inside of you, he will fatten up as soon as you start breasfeeding. I’m sure if you are eating well, he’s doing great too. You might be surprised when he comes out! So cool knowing that 13th you will meet him…I’m not sure when mine decides to make an appearance. I feel like he’s in there until the end. Kisses.

Grow, grow, grow! I will hope that it is all measurement error – perhaps the previous measurement was high, and this one was low, and it only APPEARS that there was no growth. Either way, will be thinking of you and hoping all goes well for the home stretch!
